Single Session Consultation for Neurodiversity-Related Issues
When it comes to neurodiversity, a little bit of knowledge and a few tools can make a huge difference. Finally having an accurate, neurodiversity-informed "map" to use for understanding yourself or your relationship can feel liberating and relieving. You can feel more oriented, more confident, and more competent to find your way forward once you finally build the right foundation.
A single session consultation can help you understand and begin to find solutions for a variety of neurodiversity-related issues. The following list is not exhaustive, but is intended to give you a picture of possible topics you could address though our process together.
For individuals with a neurodivergent (or possibly neurodivergent) spouse or other adult family member:
For neurodivergent (diagnosed or self-identified) adult individuals:
My expertise and experience is primarily on the topics related to adult neurodiversity, especially autism and ADHD. I am particularly knowledgeable about neurodiverse/mixed-neurotype couples relationships, neurodivergence that is diagnosed/self-identified in adulthood, and adult children of undiagnosed autistic parents.

For individuals with a neurodivergent (or possibly neurodivergent) spouse or other adult family member:
- assessing and understanding currently undiagnosed neurodivergence (autism, ADHD) in a spouse or other adult family member (child, parent, sibling, etc)
- initiating conversations with a spouse or other adult family member inviting exploration of their own possible neurodivergence
- adjusting to a new diagnosis or self-diagnosis of neurodivergence in an adult family member
- identifying next steps to support yourself and your ND family member
For neurodivergent (diagnosed or self-identified) adult individuals:
- understanding your relationships, especially mixed-neurotype relationships
- identifying next steps to support yourself in navigating neurodiversity-related challenges
- exploring whether or not testing/formal diagnosis is something you would like to pursue
- assessing and further validating (or ruling out) your own neurodivergence (ADHD, autism)

What To Expect: Before, During, and After
Our whole process will be an opportunity for us to take a closer look at a neurodiversity-related issue in your life, co-investigating what you're experiencing and generating neurodiversity-informed solutions to support you.
Before we meet, I will share with you a pre-consultation questionnaire to help you organize your thoughts and focus your goals for our time together. I'll carefully review this before we meet.
When we sit down together (in person or virtually), we'll focus in on your hopes and goals for our conversation. You'll have the opportunity ask me anything about neurodivergence and neurodiverse relationship dynamics that is relevant to your needs and experiences. I will also ask you questions and reflect what I'm hearing you say, so that we can work together to build a meaningful description of your experiences as well as accessible solutions for your next steps.
After we meet, I will create a post-consultation summary for you to keep. This summary will include both our assessments and analysis of your current problems as well as resources and actions steps we've identified to help you address these problems.

frequently asked questions
How long does a single session consultation last and what does it cost?
We will meet for 90 minutes. The cost is $350 for the entire process, including pre- and post-consultation services (see description above). You will be expected to pay a $200 deposit at the time of scheduling; the remaining balance of the consultation fee is due at the time of your appointment. This service is not covered by insurance.
How is a single session consultation different from therapy?
My consultation process is designed to be primarily educational in nature. We'll explore applying neurodiversity-related concepts and knowledge to specific experiences in your life and develop options for tools and resources that could support you in moving forward. Our relationship will be one of collaborative problem-description and problem-solving with an emphasis on identifying your next steps as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Therapy involves an ongoing relationship between a therapist and client where a range of topics and issues can be covered in breadth and depth. This allows for time to focus on a client's emotional life and past relational histories as well as to explore interactions and patterns across different challenges and problems. Further, consistent appointment over time promotes a space where there can be gentle accountability and support for implementing and evaluating possible solutions.
How do I know if a single session consultation is right for me?
A single session consultation is most appropriate for adult individuals with specific questions and concerns related to neurodiversity. This includes those who wish to supplement ongoing therapy (with another therapist) with additional knowledge and insights regarding neurodiverse relationship dynamics.
Our process will not result in a documented, official diagnosis of neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, etc); it will only offer you ways to further “try on” if a neurodiversity lens can help you understand yourself and/or a relationship with a loved one. Referrals for further assessment and formal diagnostic testing can be provided if this is identified as an action step you'd like to take after our consultation.
Please note that a single session consultation is not mental health treatment and therefore not clinically appropriate for reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, addiction, suicidal thoughts, or other mental health conditions.

Do I attend in person or online? What if I am located outside of the state of Indiana?
You can choose to meet with me in my office in person (in Broad Ripple, Indianapolis) or meet with me online via a secure video platform. If you choose to meet online, please make sure you have a reliable internet connection as well as complete privacy during our session time.
As this service is a consultation and not psychotherapy, it is open to residents of all of the United States and not limited to residents of Indiana. If you are located outside of Indiana, please know that my knowledge of local resources in your area will not be as robust, though I will attempt to research as best I can.
Can neurodiverse couples attend a single session consultation together?
No. Couples relationships hold many variables and complexities that are challenging to adequately address in a single session consultation format. One of you may participate and share your post-consultation report with your partner if you would like. It is also an option for each of you to attend your own consultations separately. If you are seeking an opportunity to work on your relationship in a shared space, you may be interested in my couples weekend workshop or you may contact me for referrals to therapists who provide ongoing therapy to neurodiverse couples.
I'm primarily interested in guidance regarding how to parent or support my neurodivergent child under the age of 18, can you help me?
Yes and no. If parenting a neurodivergent child is a secondary issue connected with primary issues you would like to discuss in your neurodiverse relationship with your spouse, than yes, we can definitely spend some of our time on this. If parenting a neurodivergent child is the primary issue you would like to discuss, please note that I do not work directly with children and therefore my ability to offer consultation on this topic is limited--you would likely be better served by engaging with another provider with direct experience providing psychotherapy to children and more complete expertise on this topic.
If parenting a neurodivergent child who is an adult over the age of 18 is a primary issue for you, I can be helpful on understanding your relationship dynamics and traits associated with your child's neurotype. My knowledge regarding support services for adults with high support needs is limited, but I can point you toward relevant resources.
