Adult Children of Autistic Parents:
an online support group
3rd Thursday of each month, 1-2:30 pm EST
$40 per session
Growing up with an autistic parent* is a unique family experience that is rarely discussed or addressed, even among mental health professionals. Our early relationships can form so much of how we relate to others and experience the world--being able to make meaning out of our childhoods can be a valuable window into understanding ourselves and growing toward what we desire for our lives. Due to a lack of public knowledge, we are often left to find our way in isolation and confusion, without the support and guidance we need to navigate our past and present relationships with ourselves and others.
That's why you're warmly invited to join us in a circle of support where you can explore your family experiences and expand into new pathways for healing and resilience. Facilitated by a licensed therapist who is also the adult child of an autistic parent, our group will be a safe, semi-structured space for discussion, connection, and learning.
While every family and every parent are different, there are many common themes that we may talk about together. Adult children of autistic parents, especially parents who were not diagnosed and did not receive appropriate support**, often struggle with the following:

- Fears and sensitives regarding being misunderstood or abandoned
- Symptoms of trauma and complex post-traumatic stress disorder

Note: Siblings and other members of the same family are not permitted to participate in the same support group to provide each person with their own space to share, reflect, and find support in whatever ways work best for them. If you and a sibling or family member would both like to participate, I will be in touch with you to work on a plan to keep you each in your own group space.
*Autistic parents are almost always undiagnosed due to past misconceptions and practices related to neurodivergence. Your parent does not need to be diagnosed or self-identified autistic for you to join this group. If seeing your parent through the framework of autism has helped you understand them and your own experiences, you are welcome to connect with us.
**Autistic parents today who are diagnosed or self-identified and receiving appropriate support are often creating very different experiences for their children, who will likely identify far less with these common struggles. Our group will seek to balance compassion and understanding for our parents (who were harmed by a culture that did not understand or support them) while also holding compassion and understanding for our own experiences.
